I’ve been wanting to change out all of the light fixtures since I moved in…. but it’s a process. Right where I lay back in my comfy spot watching tv I can see one of those brass light fixtures glaring back at me! I don’t want to see it from my favorite spot! So I had a little spare time on my hands the other night and I knew I had some bronze paint in the garage from a previous DIY project. And yes that’s right I said paint, not spray paint.
Even though I’ve installed a couple of light fixtures myself, I didn’t want the hassle of removing THREE light fixtures. I’ve seen the tutorials about leaving fixtures up and spray painting them by covering the area but I didn’t have craft paper on hand and I wanted to do this project right then.
I had this bronze paint in oil-rubbed bronze on hand from painting some hinges so I decided I could just paint the fixture on the ceiling. Bonus: it’s under $10 and the quart goes a lonnnng way.
Now to the steps:
1. I removed the glass globes, cleaned them, and left them to dry.
2. I was some how out of tape so I took sticky notes and slid them under the edge going all the way around the brass fixtures.
3. Apply 1 coat of bronze paint
4. Let it dry
5. Apply another coat of paint
6. Be patient and let it dry
7. Remove the sticky notes and check around the fixture for any little traces of brass left behind
8. Place sticky notes back under any areas that need touch ups
9. Let it dry
10. Put your glass globes back up and enjoy an updated light fixture or fixture(s) for under 10 bucks!
